In 2012 The Art Newspaper Russia established an annual award in the field of art industry honouring the most important events and people that are connected with artistic process, cultural heritage preservation activities, and private initiatives in the art world. The prize nominees are the most important cultural events on the opinion of the paper’s editorial. It is nominated in five categories: Book of the Year, Exhibition of the Year, Museum of the Year, Restoration of the Year, and Personal Contribution. Winners are awarded the sculptures, created by famous artist Sergey Shekhovtsov, representing crossed figures of emblematic symbols of Russia and UK – Spasskaya Tower and Big Ben, which also has a symbolic meaning, as The Art Newspaper was established in London in 1990.

In 2013 and 2014 the ceremony was held at the Manege central exhibition hall. The ceremonies were directed by Alexei Agranovich.
