The exhibition of European drawing “From Veronese to Picasso”, organized as part of the graphics festival by the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum together with the Inartibus Foundation, introduces viewers to works from the collection of Inna Bazhenova.
The drawing is of particular interest as a specific kind of original graphics. Looking at the works of old masters, we are imbued with a special atmosphere. Each graphic sheet gives us a kind of “key” to the “creative laboratory” of the artist.
The exposition opens with the works of masters of the XVI and XVII centuries, these are the works of outstanding artists Parmigianino, L. Carracci, Guercino, etc., inheriting the traditions of the artistic culture of the High Renaissance.
Virtuoso graphic studies created by the famous Venetian painters Veronese, Tintoretto, J.B. Tiepolo, F. Guardi and others demonstrate the brilliant style of the Venetian school with its inherent plastic freedom and picturesque interpretation of forms.
Along with the works of the Italian school, the exhibition shows the most interesting examples of the work of French masters from the famous The Fontainebleau school, before the experiments of modernist artists.
Graphic sheets of the XVIII and XIX centuries occupy a significant place in the exposition of French drawing, including works by the most famous masters of the Rococo era A.Watteau, F.Boucher, J. Fragonard, as well as works by French romantics and realists of the XIX century – T. Gericault, E.Delacroix, O.Daumier, etc.
French art of the twentieth century is represented by the works of P. Picasso, A.Modigliani, A.Matisse, etc.
Of particular interest are the original drawings of the famous French sculptors of the twentieth century O. Rodin, A.Maillol and S. Despio, representing the workshops of nude studies.
The exhibition includes 114 works demonstrating various stages of the development of European artistic culture from the Renaissance to Modern times.
Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum is glad that this exhibition has become another important joint project with the In artibus foundation.
