Some 800 pages of the catalog hold articles discussing the Russian “Gothic” architecture in the context of the West European tradition, numerous illustrations and rare architectural documents, detailed analysis of each section of the exhibition. Book includes both Russian and English versions of its text.
After the seven thematic sections of the exhibition — Russian Gothic, Architect, Empress, Tournament, Propylaea, Residence, Temple and Masonic Study, the catalog reveals all the facets of Russian gothic and Vasily Bazhenov’s art.
The authors of the book and the originators of the exhibition describe in detail the peculiarities of the architecture of the Enlightenment and the phenomenon of the “Gothic taste”, which for the first time became a separate topic of art history research.
